Dror Tamir – one of Israel's leading contemporary circus performers.
For near a decade he has performed in many different varieties across Europe and Israel, in street shows, festivals, promotions and with several of the United Kingdom's leading circus and physical theater companies.
Born in Haifa, Israel, Dror was always drawn to the stage and performance. He first took to the stage at the age of 9 when doing a comedy routine in front of 300 guests at his brother's Bar-Mitzva. At 18, he played the lead roll of Dr. Frankenfurter in a theater production of cult movie: "Rocky horror picture show". Dror learnt juggling at the age of 12 and kept picking up tricks here and there, but it wasn’t until a private function at Kineret (sea of Galilee, march 2000) when he juggled glow balls and became part of the party flavors, that he decided to pursue a career in juggling. In August 2000, he left for Spain, with no money and a dream to earn a living from street show and juggling while travelling.
After a pretty bleak start at Gibraltar, things could only get better. By the end of the month he was in Amsterdam and was granted a permit to perform on the street. He then started experimenting with fire juggling, street comedy, volunteer animation, live sculptures and of course, the inevitable dealing with hecklers and street drunks. On November 2000 he got his first paid gig – Fire Juggling for the main events of the Cannabis Cup – sponsored by New-York's "High Times" magazine.
Dror kept expanding over the next 3 years, adding walkabouts, teaching, stilts, balancing props and more and more juggling props to his variety of skills. He performed in festivals and clubs in Ibiza in 2001, festivals in Poland and street shows with a partner across Europe in 2002, corporate gigs and community center shows and workshops in Israel in 2003.
In 2002 he launched the manufacturing of the "FireBird Spinners" – a unique fire toy that is he's patented design. Dror is also one of the world's best in handling and manipulating this object, and his fire shows that present it have become famous across Europe. The FireBird show continued to develop to include unique and wild fire juggling props
On September of that year he was accepted for studies in Circomedia- one of Europe's leading academies for contemporary circus arts and physical theater, where he completed a two-year course and earned an OCR diploma (Oxford, Cambridge & Royal Society of Arts) and interned for another year with flying trapeze company – "Above & Beyond". Dror stayed in the UK until 2007. during his four years there (including the studying years) he has collaborated with some of the UK leading circus artists, and worked for several of the biggest festivals, agencies and physical theater companies.
Over these years, Dror has become an advanced juggler, took a liking to the "gentleman juggling" style and created cabaret and physical theater acts that have been shown in European Juggling and Circus conventions as well as in major circus tents in variety festivals.
Currently, Dror is working and performing in Israel, cooperating with Israel's leading juggling manufacturer "Buyoom Jug" to include many more juggling props in this site's shop and He is in the final stages of developing a new full length show that will include mime, physical theater, comedy, sound effects and juggling. He is also doing a university degree in history and education.
